BBQLab @ BQIT:22

BBQLab descended on Bristol for Bristol Quantum Information Technologies Workshop 2022 to enjoy a fantastic week of seminars, poster sessions, networking events and engagement with the scientific community – and beautiful Bristol.

Congratulations to Vatshal Srivastav (left) and Suraj Goel (right) for winning the People’s Choice Poster Prize, gaining over 50% of peoples votes! Brilliant follow-up to Vatshal’s win in BQIT: 2021.

As well as an inspiring Equality, Diveristy and Inclusion session on imposter syndrome in academia and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic featuring our group leader Prof Mehul Malik, and co-chaired by our Sophie Engineer.

All in all, a wonderful opportunity for all nine of our team to step out of the virtual and into real life. Bring on more conferences, workshops and prizes!

Winning the Double at Q-Turn2020!

Vatshal with his silver prize student presentation. Natalia with her gold prize poster.

At this year’s Q-Turn some 600+ researchers met online to share their works in quantum science, highlighting top-quality experimental and theoretical work on quantum information technology and foundations. Holding together this meeting is Q-turn’s awareness program, promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, intersectionality, responsible research, workers’ rights, as well as physical and mental health in quantum science and technology. Making Q-turn a vital and amazingly fulfilling meeting for the sciences and everybody involved.

To top the incredible week off, BBQLab students Natalia and Vatshal won two prizes(!), the gold poster prize, and silver student presentation prize, respectively.

Congratulations to both of you, and thank you Q-Turn2020 for an amazing week!

BBQLab @ Q-Turn 2020

This week we are attending Q-Turn 2020, an international quantum information workshop series being held virtually this year. I have also had the honour of serving as programme committee chair for this very exciting event!

In addition to showcasing cutting-edge scientific research on all things quantum, Q-Turn 2020 has an awareness programme focussing on a wide range of issues such as mental health and harassment in academia.

Our group will be represented by Vatshal and Natalia, who are presenting a talk and a poster respectively on some of our recent work. We hope to see you there!

Here is a nice video summary of Natalia’s poster:

BBQLab @ Photon 2020
