Congratulations Suraj!

A congratulations is in order for our group member Suraj Goel!

Suraj gave talks at the SPIE Photonics Europe and SPIE Optical Systems Design 2024 conferences in Strasbourg, presenting our work on reconfigurable quantum optical circuits, and multi-plane neural networks at each conference respectively.

He won the best paper award (2nd Place) at computational optics session for his talk on “Characterization of scattering systems using multi-plane neural networks“. We are very proud of him and the only thing left to ask is what will he spend his prize money on!?

BBQLab @ Benasque QI 23

We just wrapped up a fantastic week at the Benasque Quantum Information workshop in the mountains of Spain! We had intense discussions with theorists from many, many fields in QI, as well as a very productive EDI session addressing several issues in academia, ranging from workers’ rights to the mobility of scientific researchers.

Here’s to deeper dialogues between theory and experiment at venues like the fantastic Centro de Ciencias de Benasque Pedro Pascual! (Yes, their doors are also blackboards)

BBQLab @CLEO23

Saying goodbye to CLEO in San Jose from the air!

We recently attended the very exciting CLEO 2023 conference in San Jose, CA. The conference included a fascinating range of talks from academia and industry on topics as diverse as deep neural networks, multi-mode fibres, and critical coupling. Mehul presented an invited talk on “harnessing complexity for manipulating spatiotemporal entanglement” at the Symposium on Enabling Highly Multimode Nonlinear and Quantum Photonics, organised by Logan Wright and Marco Piccardo. He also presented a talk on our work on our work on noise and loss-robust quantum steering in the Quantum Network Protocols session. Besides all the great science, it was also very nice to catch up with old friends and colleagues from around the world!

BBQLab @ QCMC22

Mehul presenting a talk at QCMC 2022

We recently had the privilege of attending the 15th International Conference on Quantum Communication, Measurement and Computing (QCMC) in beautiful Lisbon, Portugal. The conference was held in the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, an incredible venue surrounded by lush gardens. Mehul presented a joint talk with Marcus Huber on “High-Dimensional Entanglement for Quantum Communication” and there was a strong showing in the poster session with posters from Suraj, Natalia, Sabine, and Mehul. A big congratulations to Andreas Winter for winning the prestigious International Quantum Award, along with Giacomo Mauro D’Ariano and Mikhail Lukin. We are looking forward to QCMC 2024 in Chennai, India!

Starting off the conference with some Vinho Verde!

BBQLab @ ICOAM2022

Tampere, Finland at 11:30 PM!

Natalia and Mehul recently represented BBQLab at the 6th International Conference on Optical Angular Momentum in Tampere, Finland. It was a fantastic event, bringing together a diverse group of researchers from around the world working on structured photons, electrons, ions, and neutrons! Natalia won the second prize in the hotly contested ICOAM poster competition for her submission on entangled ripples and twists of light. Mehul presented an invited talk on our recent work on programming high-dimensional quantum optical circuits inside a complex medium. We are looking forward to ICOAM2024 in South Africa!

Congratulations to Natalia for winning 2nd prize in the ICOAM poster competition!
